new features:

  • improved parry via new passives in various skill lines
    • additional level 0 node in Slash: parry reflects 10/15/20% of the original damage
    • additional level 0 node in Ember: parry deals 5/10/15 extra fire damage
    • additional level 0 node in Shocking Touch: Parry deals 3/6/9 extra lightning damage and inflicts 1/2/3 shock stacks
    • additional level 0 node in Freezing Touch: Parry deals 2/4/6 extra cold damage and inflicts 1/2/3 freeze charges
    • all of the above scale with their line’s damage bonus, and the fire damage also causes burn stacks
  • added unavoidable attacks
    • cannnot be dodged or parried
    • block still works
    • any non-shadow attack has a 25% chance to be unavoidable
    • unavoidable attacks deal 20% less damage
  • gold armor inlays: reduce unavoidable damage by another 10/20/30/40/50% (multiplicative)
    • smiths can be asked how armor works

water & sailing:

  • when your boat is beached you can push it back into the water (costs stamina)
  • added sailing proficiency: improves turning speed by 2% per level, as well as max speed out in the open waters by 1% per level.
  • base max speed in the open is 80km/h as usual, but in rivers it’s reduced to 40km/h to allow for more control
  • wind taming spell: change wind direction into the direction you look at, usable once per day, requires lvl 15 sailing to learn
  • rivers were often interrupted shortly before a lake. now they are more likely to continue

improvements:

  • when the quest asks you to enter your name, you can now enter it. text input fully compatible with gamepads
  • added setting for distance at which snow appears on trees in style&feel. also doubled the default distance
  • added more complex tree geometry
  • painting proficiency overview now also lists paintings per day
  • guild master NPC can explain painting mechanics
  • when a torch is lit, opening the action menu (TAB/Y) offers to put it out
  • removed janky extra pause at the end of combat
  • glide on a frozen lake after running

other changes:

  • swapped the default keybinds of worldmap and minimap (worldmap is now M)
  • mercantilism xp gain is no longer directly based on item value (closer to a square root of it)
  • roads no longer override rivers

removed features:

  • removed bridges from the game. they needed thousands of lines of code spread across 19 files, caused slow tests and slow terrain generation. on top of that I haven’t seen one in weeks and forgot they were even a thing

tooling:

  • dev only: a quest debug tool where you can inspect state and bindings of all quests, jump to quest nodes with automatic backfill, fill conditions to the brink (e.g. slay 10 enemies will fill up to 9/10 so you can test the transition quickly)
  • dev only: menu for increasing/decreasing proficiencies
